"Together we can make a difference"
Driven by the urge to contribute their time and humanitarian
services to community, a group of
few young men in Johor Bahru met in the year 1981 to discuss the
possibility of forming a Lions Club in the town. Within six months,
the Lions Club of Johor Bahru Tasek Utara was chartered on 25th June in
that year with 35 charter members. The Charter President was Lion Robert
Chew.
The name of the Club was then changed to Lions Club of
Johor Bahru Host in 1995 to reflect its seniority and premiership in the
region.
The then President of Lioness Club of Johor Bahru,
Lioness Tan Lay Tee, Zone Chairman Lion Shiva Banerjee, District
Governor Lion John Loh provided invaluable helps and supports to make
the New Charter a reality. Lions Club of Singapore North was the
sponsoring club. Following the Board policy of Lions Clubs
International, the club now admits females into our membership.
Over the last twenty-seven years, Lions Club of
Johor Bahru Host followed closely to the Objects & Purposes of Lions
Clubs International. Many meaningful humanitarian projects were carried
out under the leadership of past and current presidents. Amongst these
projects are Drug Awareness Campaigns, SightFirst related projects, Work with
those who are visually and hearing impaired, projects in support of Special Children, Old Folks, Health and Environmental
projects, Leo Clubs & other youth programmes, just to name a
few. Together with the other Lions Clubs in Johor Bahru & with another
NGO, the club also embarked onto a very meaningful long term
humanitarian project - JB Lions-MAA Medicare Charity Dialysis Centre.
In promoting international understanding, the club twinned
with the Lions Club of Singapore Katong on 21st September 1982, Lions
Club of Bangkok Downtown on 14th July 1988 and Lions Club of Kuala
Lumpur Central on 29th January 2000.
In the year 1988, the
Multiple District was bifurcated into 308A1, 308A2, 308B1 and 308B2.
Together with the other nine Lions Clubs in Southern Johor from District
308A, our club joined the other clubs in Northern Johor, Melaka, Negeri
Sembilan, K.L., Pahang, Trengganu & Kelantan to form the new District 308B1.
Over the years, the club produced
many members who
were invited by the past and present District Governors to provide their
valuable time, services and leadership in various cabinet positions. In fact, our club
is proud to have Lion Albert Tan
who was the District Governor of 308B1 in fiscal year 2001/2002. |
